County Fair, Redux – by Joshua A Bickel

I’ve covered the county fair every summer since I’ve lived in Columbia. After four years, things don’t change much, so it’s always a challenge to go year after year and make different or better pictures than the year before. This year, I was working for the Tribune, and it was the first big event I’ve covered since I’ve been here in June. In years past, I’d always seen pictures happen in front of me, but – probably because I wasn’t paying enough attention – I missed a lot of good images. I also saw what other photographers had done and thought to myself “why didn’t I see that? What WAS I doing?” This year, I tried to make all those pictures in my head from the past, and some I didn’t expect to see.
