A Day of Transition – by Erin Schwartz

Erin Schwartz, MU masters candidate, created a multimedia piece on Darwin Hindman’s retirement from mayor of Columbia.

Well, when I talked with Josh Bickel about doing an independent study covering the mayoral election in Columbia, he brought up the idea of doing a multimedia piece on Mayor Darwin Hindman’s last day in office. He had been mayor for so long – fifteen years – and was so loved by the community, we wanted to do something special to honor him and this day of transition. The project took form in January at that meeting, and then progressed over the semester with phone calls in February, an in-depth interview in March and finally, coordinating for his last day in April. This was the first long-term (in planning, at least) project I’ve worked on, and I feel honored that it was my story to tell. The Hindmans are wonderful people, and I truly enjoyed my time spent with them producing this piece. And, I could not have put it all together without Josh, David Kennedy and Valerie Mosley at my side editing.
