Broadway – by Mito-Habe Evans

Mito Habe-Evans, MU masters candidate, created a video about Broadway, the main drag in Columbia, for her Picture Story class project.

This is my contribution to my Picture Story class’ Broadway project, which attempts to tell stories about Columbia through Broadway Avenue, the main road that passes through downtown. My component of this project was to set the scene of Broadway as such a main artery, and tell the story of people who commute along it.

My classmates Laura Herring and Lillian Kelly helped me out so much this last week. Laura actually learned how to pilot a tandem bicycle I borrowed from my friend Caitlin Giddings and braved Broadway Avenue just so I could ride alongside Fred Schmidt and shoot video of him riding his cargo bike. Lilli was kind enough to drive me up and down Broadway in her Jeep with the hood off, so I could stick my head out the top and record the journey down the road.

Loved your video! I lived in an apartment complex on Broadway (can’t remember the name) while I was doing my masters degree at the J School ten years ago. It’s a long way from Columbia, Missouri, to San José, Costa Rica, but your story brought me closer to those years. Fun times is all I can say from my Mizzou days.
