At the bright-eyed young age of 23, a year after graduating from journalism school and thinking I knew it all (which I definitely did not), I landed a staff photographer job in my hometown of Monterey, Calif. with the Monterey County Weekly.
I’ve taken a lot of photos since then and still love the newspaper world and have been lucky to work alongside a great news staff of talented reporters and editors. I tell people it’s a dream job, because I’m not really sure what else I could do with myself if I wasn’t shooting photos.

It’s been quite a wild ride documenting my hometown of Monterey County. It’s a great place to be a journalist, because of the wild diversity of international politics and the military community, marine sciences, a huge agricultural world and endless beautiful landscapes. The people who have created the local communities are wonderful, fascinating and have created endless news over the years.
I love small town news. It’s been a privilege to document life in my own backyard, both locally and how international events shape our community.
Here are my favorites photos from each of my 10 years.
