After working in the visual media industry for eight years, Melanie McLean and Ryan Brooks founded Flying Giant Productions in January 2014. Flying Giant Productions endeavors to produce branded content and advertisements for commercial clients. In addition, the company’s profits help fund content for social good, often in collaboration with local non-profits and community programs. Melanie McLean graduated from Rutgers University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, with a focus in visual arts. She was was commissioned as an Air Force Second Lieutenant upon graduation from college and served as a public affairs officer and media relations liaison to the 15th Airlift Command of Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. Upon completion of her service, she returned to New York City where she began her freelance photo career. She had the opportunity to work under the mentorship of living legend, Annie Leibovitz, for her first year and also assisted filmmaker, Andre Costantini. As her career grew, she traveled through South America for six months, documenting local culture and exploring ancient civilizations and was a two-time winner of the resident travel blog position, Host Our Coast, where she worked with Ryan in her second season. Ryan Brooks graduated with honors from William Paterson University’s fine art and photography program in 2004. He received the Puffin Foundation fine arts grant for his work in Paterson. In 2005 he joined the Peace Corps in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Since returning to the United States in 2007 he has begun a new project documenting graffiti culture. In 2011, Ryan won a prestigious position as resident travel blogger for Host Our Coast with his partner Melanie.
