Honolulu-based photographer Elyse Butler Mallams shot an assignment for Hana Hou! Magazine about endangered Nene birds at Haleakala National Park, Maui.

One of my favorite assignments this past year was photographing endangered Nene birds on top of Haleakala Volcano for the cover story of Hana Hou! The Hawaiian Airlines Magazine. It was so interesting searching for and tagging Nenes in front country pastureland with Cathleen and Tim Bailey, Endangered Wildlife Management at Haleakala National Park, where they have researched Nenes on Maui for the past 20 years.
