Jump Baby, Jump! – by Jamey Price

Charlotte-based sports photographer Jamey Price shot the beginning of a new steeplechase season in the historic horse community of Aiken, S.C.

Professional jump racing is back in action in the United States! Aiken played host to the opening meet of the year and what a day it was! While our friends across the pond have been going since November, America celebrates the spring sunshine by putting their winter training to the test at one of the more challenging tracks on the jump racing calendar.

It’s often a big joke what some race horses are named, but there was no joking on Saturday as PULLYOURFINGEROUT dominantly claimed the feature race with Ross Geraghty in the saddle. I was back to playing double duty as a “jock-tographer” riding in the first race and photographing the rest. Steeplechasing moves on to the Carolina Cup next, but you won’t see me on course until Stoneybrook in two weeks time. JUMP BABY JUMP!!!
